Mission
To promote the health and learning of the nation's children and youth by providing national leadership and advocacy, impacting public policy, collaborating, and proactively influencing school health programs and school nursing practice.
Core Beliefs
We believe that NASSNC improves the health and learning of our nation's children by:
- providing national leadership and advocacy to promote the health and learning of children;
- envisioning and proactively influencing the future of school health and school nursing practice;
- advocating for quality nursing services;
- providing a supportive network and information sharing among individual state school nurse consultants; and
- impacting public policy related to children's health and education issues
Goal 1: To impact and influence the development of public policy for school health
1.1 Identify emerging issues impacting school health.
1.2 Periodically review and distribute position papers.
1.3 Participate in state and national education and health reform.
1.4 Maximize funding resources.
1.5 Participate in Healthy People 2010.
1.6 Provide leadership in the use of technology.
Goal 2: To collaborate with other national organizations
2.1 Influence professional development.
2.2 Develop standards, competencies and performance outcome indicators for school nurse practice.
2.3 Review, annually, organizational membership and liasons according to mission and goals.
2.4 Support the National Nursing Coalition for School Health (NNCSH).
2.5 Support organizations that share our mission.
2.6 Support NASSNC representation at appropriate meetings and conferences.
Goal 3: To promote and support research initiatives.
3.1 Support initiatives of the National Center for School Health Nursing and other individual organizations.
3.2 Support the National Association of School Nurse (NASN), the American School Health Association (ASHA) and the National Nursing Coaliton for School Health (NNCSH) research initiatives.
3.3 Participate in establishing a system to collect relevant national health data.
Goal 4: To provide a forum for consultant learning by sharing and networking among members
4.1 Conduct two meetings a year.
4.2 Enhance communication.
4.3 Share calendar information regarding conference opportunities.
4.4 Share information regarding state resource development.
